Manchester City's Drop in Form

During November, it was surprising to see Manchester City, one of the top teams in Europe,
experience a sharp decline in form, losing 6 and drawing 1 of their last 7 matches. After their 2-
1 defeat to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup, things went downhill for the English club, as they
then lost to Bournemouth and Brighton in the Premier League—results that were huge upsets
on their own. Following this, they suffered a 4-1 loss to Sporting Lisbon in the Champions
League (UCL), with Viktor Gyökeres scoring a hat-trick, which further shocked fans.
After playing Tottenham again in the Premier League, City lost 4-0 in another stunning result. In
their second UCL match of the month, they were 3 goals up against Dutch team Feyenoord by
the 75th minute, but Feyenoord scored 3 goals in the final 15 minutes to equalize, making
Manchester City the first team ever in the UCL to be ahead by 3 goals in the 75th minute and
not win. In their final Premier League match of the month, they lost 2-0 to a dominant
Liverpool, making it a completely winless month for City.
This drastic drop in form has left the club in 17th place in the UCL standings and 5th in the
Premier League, a surprising 11 points behind Liverpool, who are at the top. They are also the
only Premier League team to have not earned a single point during the month.
After their draw with Feyenoord, manager Pep Guardiola was seen with scratches on his head
and nose. The scratch on his nose was caused before kick-off by a sharp fingernail, while the
scratches on his head occurred from scratching in frustration during the final moments of the
match, when Feyenoord mounted their comeback. This marks Guardiola’s longest-ever losing
streak in his career as a manager. Reports also say he has been locked in his office and
unreachable for the past 48 hours, working intensely to turn the team's situation around,
showing the pressure he is under.
Meanwhile, Liverpool has been in exceptional form, having beaten Real Madrid, Manchester
City, and Bayer Leverkusen—champions of their respective leagues—by a combined score of 8-
0. They are now at the top of both the Champions League and Premier League tables, with new
manager Arne Slot proving to be an excellent fit for the club.
In Spain, both Real Madrid, who lost to Liverpool, and Barcelona have faced some challenges.
Barcelona, under new manager Hansi Flick, began the season strongly but has struggled
recently, dropping from the top of La Liga to just 4 points ahead of Real Madrid. With two
games in hand, Real Madrid could overtake Barcelona, making the Spanish league title race very
competitive.
In summary, November has been full of surprises, building excitement for December, which
promises to be just as unpredictable.
